This one turns out the same way every time. In consecutive years at the Boeing Missile Systems Annual Chili Cookoff, it won “Best Chili” and “Wimpiest Chili”. Needless to say, it is a sweet, not-hot recipe. The secret is the molasses.

It never made it to the AHCB Chili Cookoff. It fell over in Bill's truck when leaving home.

Brown and drain the following:

  • 2 lb ground chuck
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 lb bacon, cooked and broken up

Mix the above with the following and cook in a crock pot (at least 4 quart) on low 6-8 hours, or heat on stove at medium-low for 1 hour.

  • 1 15 or 16 oz can pork and beans
  • 1 15 or 16 oz can butter beans (large or small)
  • 1 15 or 16 oz can dark red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp liquid smoke
  • 3 Tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • dash pepper
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 2 Tbsp prepared mustard
  • 2 Tbsp molasses
