Brass, Woodwind and Percussion Seminars led by Members of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra

What an incredible opportunity to sharpen our musical skills! Symphony members will touch on challenging areas of our music for the weekend and lead us through music for woodwind and brass choirs and percussion ensembles. Talk with them about their lives as professional musicians and earn a chance to win free tickets to an orchestral performance.

Seminar Leaders from the SLSO

Brass: James Wehrman, Horn

Woodwinds: Robert Mottl, Assistant Principal Bassoon

Percussion: John Kasica, Distinguished Percussion Chair

The sessions with members of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra are presented as part of the SLSO's Community Partnership Program which seeks to develop music related relationships and participate in activities that provide opportunities for various communities to hear the music of the SLSO. For further information about the program, please call (314)286-4434.

Unpublished works of Claude T. Smith and works previously out of print are now available due to the work of Pam Kelly and her family. This session allows us the opportunity to experience these works under the baton of Claude T. Smith's only descendant (click for selections).

Finale® Software Session

As Staff Editor of Claude T. Smith publications, Jim Kelly creates new publications of Smith works utilizing Finale and Music Printer Plus. He will share his knowledge of the composing and arranging software Finale with those of us struggling to understand its many components.

Playing Sessions with Keith House

There are many reasons Professor Keith House is one of the best-loved band directors in this state. Not the least of these is his knowledge of and enthusiasm for the March. Experience the March (click for selections) as you have never experienced it before. Another great treat will be a session with Keith House directing Community Band Favorites (click for selections) and, we hope, sharing all his best "war stories".

Bring Band Materials to Share

Don't forget to coordinate with other members in your band to bring materials to share with other bands. It is always interesting to see what other bands are doing and how they are doing it. Bring programs from past concerts, flyers for upcoming concerts, newsletters, anniversary booklets, anything you have to share. You might create a standing poster with one copy of each item on it and then stack multiple copies on the table. That way if you run out we can still see the variety of materials you use. If your band is as crazy as ours, you can even bring scrapbooks, photo albums, and band t-shirts, watches, and underwear! We will provide the table. You must bring anything else you need for the display.
